A cold 10 deg C start in Butte at 7am and straight up a windy road to cross the continental divide at 6,400 feet of altitude. Rolling grassy uplands with clumps of pine forests. A coffee and petrol stop and soon we were at Gardiner - and the entrance to Yellowstone Park.

We then rode through one of the large Yellowstone valleys - stopping for a passing bison.
Over a spur and into another valley we saw several herds - a spectacular sight.
Climbing higher we stopped for lunch before taking on Bear Tooth Pass - a noted motorbiking challenge as depicted in the following schematic (highest elevation just under 11,000 feet).

We dropped down (not literally) into the town of Redlodge for a break before heading on to Billings and our hotel for the night.
